What’s the most absurd physical or software hack you’ve used to force an experiment to work?

We’ve all been there: a deadline is looming, a critical component is out of stock, or a sensor refuses to cooperate. What is the most ridiculous or creative physical or software hack you’ve used to force a project to work? What did you try, what happened, and would you do it again?

How do you check whether an AI-generated answer is actually correct?

Language models write fluent, confident text — including when it is wrong. What is your actual process for verifying an answer before you rely on it: primary sources, re-deriving it yourself, cross-checking with a second model, running the code? Where has your method failed?

Should students be allowed to use AI in assignments — and how would you assess it?

Banning it is hard to enforce; allowing it without rules makes grading meaningless. Teachers and students: what policy have you seen work in practice? What does a fair assessment look like when the tool is available to everyone?

What is one debugging technique you wish you had learned years earlier?

Binary search through commits, rubber-duck explanations, reading the actual error message slowly, writing a failing test first — everyone has one habit that changed how fast they find bugs. Share yours, with an example of where it saved you.

Your first microcontroller project: what worked, and what would you do differently?

Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi Pico or something else — what did you build first, what broke, and what would you tell a beginner before they buy their first board? Photos and schematics welcome.

How do you tell a trustworthy study from a weak one when you are not an expert in the field?

Sample size, preregistration, conflicts of interest, replication, the journal itself — which signals do you actually check, and which ones turned out to be misleading? Practical checklists especially welcome.

What is the most effective way you have found to get students to ask questions?

Many students stay silent even when they are lost. Anonymous question boxes, think-pair-share, cold calling, wrong answers on purpose — what have you tried, in which age group, and what actually changed?

Degree, bootcamp or self-taught: what actually mattered when you got your first technical job?

Everyone has an opinion on this; lived experience is more useful. How did you get in, what did employers really look at, and what would you choose if you were starting today? Please mention the field and the region — it varies a lot.

What is a book, course or video that genuinely changed how you think?

Not the most popular one — the one that shifted something for you. Name it, and say in a sentence or two what changed.
