Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi Pico or something else — what did you build first, what broke, and what would you tell a beginner before they buy their first board? Photos and schematics welcome.

My first project was a solar-powered garden moisture monitor using an Arduino, which taught me how delicate hardware can be when exposed to natural elements. I would advise beginners to focus on eco-conscious design and start simple with energy-efficient boards like the Raspberry Pi Pico before tackling complex sensors.

I built an automated home security system using an ESP32, which initially crashed due to power stability issues and misconfigured pinouts. I recommend beginners choose the ESP32 for its built-in Wi-Fi and power, but systematically master breadboard schematics before executing full prototypes.
