Istanbul rents vary a lot by neighbourhood, so set a budget before you start looking, and always ask for today's price rather than trusting an old figure. According to Istanbul Technical University's own dormitory fee list (2026), university rooms cost between 2,300 and 17,800 Turkish lira a month depending on the building and whether the room is shared, which is a useful low-end benchmark. Off campus, Türkiye Today (2025) reported that the average monthly rent for an apartment in Istanbul was around 33,823 lira, about 784 dollars, in December 2025, and rents have been rising quickly year on year.

• See it first. View the room or flat in person, or on a live video call, before paying anything.
