Travel and hosting

Questions

Short answers to the usual questions.

Questions

Does it cost anything?

No. Hosting is free and the site takes no payment, deposit or commission — ever. Everyday costs are shared between the two of you, in whatever way you agree.

Who can see my trip?

Only signed-in members. Visitors see counts — how many trips, which cities. Your trip shows your name, your profile’s age range and what you do, your stops and dates, and your note. Never an address, never a year of birth.

Who can see my home card and photos?

Only a traveller you have offered to host. Not your public profile, not other members, not the staff.

How old do I have to be?

18. Every traveller, companion and host declares it, and the year of birth we keep is private — profiles show an age range.

Can I host only women, or only students?

Yes. Your home card says who you are open to hosting. The site checks a trip against it before you offer, and a traveller whose profile does not state the thing you require does not match — an unknown never passes a filter.

What if a plan falls through?

Cancel as early as you can. More than 3 days before the start, cancelling costs nothing. Later than that, the person cancelling loses 3 points and cannot make new plans for 7 days; the other side is never penalised.

Can a reference be edited or deleted?

No. A reference is sealed until both are written, then opened together, and it stays as written. A moderator can remove one that breaks the rules.

What does the staff see?

Trips, offers, plans and references are between members. Moderators see an offer, a message or a reference only when a member reports it. Nobody reads a sealed reference, a private calendar, or a home card.

What happens when I close my account?

Your trips, offers, home card, calendar and pending plans are deleted. Plans that happened and the references you wrote stay, as the other member’s record, under “Removed account”. The full list.

Where do I start?

Fill in your travel profile — a few facts, five minutes — then announce a trip or open a home card. Everything lives on your Travel page.
